This was another book I made for the same class. It was my final project. It’s a horrifically long concertina book done in two layers. The top layer consists of letters cut out of the pages—1 letter per page. The second layer is all patterned cardstock from the scrapbook store. Originally I wanted to hand draw and color the patters, but hey, I’m busy and I ran out of time. The letters on the front spell out: “In an ocean of ashes, islands of order. Patterns making themselves out of nothing.” The quote is from Tom Stoppard’s Arcadia. What I liked about this book is that you can’t easily read it. Either it has to be spread open and you have to get some distance to read it, or you have to go page-by-page, writing down each letter. Maybe I’ll post some pictures of the inside sometime. I’ve been taking photos of my books the last few days to archive / include as the ancillary work for my thesis. |
