D’s parents took us out to dinner tonight. We went to La Choza, D’s favorite for New Mexican food. Both D and I always get the same thing when we get New Mexican: A bean burrito without cheese and covered in green chile. We’ve called most of the decent places in Santa Fe to make sure they offer the beans and the chile vegetarian—they are often cooked in pork or lard. The chile is a New Mexican thing, as they grow good chiles down south. You can order either green, red, or a mixture of the two which is known as “christmas”. The unusual thing on this plate is the posole, which is rarely cooked vegetarian, but La Choza is the exception. It’s too bad my shadow is in the shot… |
